This just in: Apparently, wondering aloud on our site about gender identity, expressing thoughts about our wishes that gender did not exist in it’s current, restraining form, and expounding on those feelings is not allowed… because we do not identify as trans.

This also just in: Instead of asking us to continue that dialogue, instead of saying, ‘Hey guys, when you said this thing, it made me feel shitty because of this, this and this,’ most people seem content to say, ‘Oh, those two who have devoted the past two years to trying to work for human equality? Turns out they are fucking idiots. Fuck them.’

When we say something that might offend some of you, and we are approached directly with a dialogue about those feelings, we get to learn, we get the space to think more on these issues, and we get to understand even more about the experience of others. When we get lambasted as though we are not human beings… it does absolutely nothing productive. 

You can be disappointed in us - but I am going to return the favor and say that I am also pretty disappointed in you.

You guys, these responses made me so sad. 

I don’t understand how you can say ‘gender is a human experience’ and then completely negate our human experiences. You think that because I am not Trans, I do not struggle with gender? Are you fucking kidding me? You have no idea how uncomfortable I feel everytime someone refers to me as a ‘beautiful woman’ you ALSO have no idea how sad and terrible I feel when someone calls me ‘sir.’ I got stopped the other day while walking into a women’s restroom bc the men’s was on the other side…I’m not a fucking man, but because we live in a world of pink and blue I’m not allowed to dress the way I want and walk the way I want and have confidence about my body UNLESS EVERYONE APPROVES. 

Do NOT call me cisgender. Do NOT call me transgender. You fucking allow me to be who I am and say it’s confusing, because this is MY HUMAN EXPERIENCE.
